Victory Lodge, No. 6238 was consecrated on 11th October 1946 in the Adams Suite, at the Liverpool Masonic Hall, Hope Street, Liverpool.
The Lodge was founded by 20 brethren and was the desire of some ten or twelve brethren who were members of our ‘Mother Lodge’,
Ancient Briton Lodge, No. 1675., their warrant is dated 20th February 1877.
The name ‘VICTORY’ is regarded as being a natural one for the period as just a few months beforehand, Britain had come through the Second World War (1939 – 1945), victorious.
It is also believed possible that the great statesman, Winston Churchill might have played a part in the minds of the Founders,
when they also adopted the ‘V’ for Victory sign, for which he will always be remembered. The Morse Code sign viz, ‘. . . _’ (V), can also be found on the Lodge crest, the Founders jewel and the Past Masters jewel.
Believed unique, certainly within the Province of West Lancashire, it can be noticed during our ceremonies that both the Director of Ceremonies
and the Assistant Director of Ceremonies carry small batons instead of the usual wands. This idea too, is believed to be a legacy of the War years, deriving from the Field Marshal’s baton.
In 1946 the initiation fee into Victory Lodge was twenty guineas (£21) with joining members paying five guineas.
During our first fifty years, Victory Lodge has achieved a record having five fathers with a total of six sons as brethren of the Lodge.
The Lodge has always had its roots in the Liverpool Masonic Hall, Hope Street except for the period of rebuilding the hall following the fire on 13th October 1968.
During this time the brethren met in the Masonic Hall, Bootle.
