The

Liverpool Masonic Hall

2015 Appeal

One hundred and fifty two years ago the Lodges of Liverpool met in a number of places which, judging from the number of times they changed them,

must have been unsatisfactory and not in keeping with the dignity and high importance of Masonry.

The then Leaders of Masonry realized that something must be done to establish a Masonic Home for Liverpool and it is due to their initiative and foresight

that the Liverpool Masonic Hall in Hope Street came into being.

Let us therefore remember always the names of the Brethren to whom we owe so much, Joshua Walmsley, Thomas Wylie, Robert Wylie, SP Brabner,

T Litterdale, W Allender, Horatio Gambell and many others who created the great heritage we enjoy today.

Their successors have carried on and expanded their great work with the same devotion and it is very right and proper that we should remember our debt to these Brethren.

In 1958, just 50 years ago, there were 77 Lodges and 33 Chapters with 8791 and 1919 Brethren and Companions meeting at Liverpool Masonic Hall.

The dramatic fall in membership has affected every Lodge and Chapter across the Province and this has continued over recent years with the closure and amalgamation of Lodges & Chapters.

Today, only 43 Lodges and 21 Chapters with 1534 and 782 Brethren and Companions meet at Liverpool Masonic Hall.

With the fall in membership the burden of responsibility to meet the costs of maintaining our magnificent home fell on fewer and fewer Brethren and Companions.

Over the years the maintenance of the building through lack of investment has seen its condition deteriorate and this combined with the requirements of modern

legislation means that there is an urgent need to raise substantial funds to upgrade the facilities offered by the Hall.

To that end, we are launching

“The Liverpool Masonic Hall 2015 Appeal”

The aim quite simply to raise from amongst the Brethren and Companions meeting at the Hall the much needed investment that will restore the home of Freemasonry in Liverpool

to its former glory and one that we can all be proud to say we are part of for the next 100 years.

Make no mistake – your Hall Needs You!

Now there are no jewels connected to this Festival.

No outward display of support

However, you will have the quiet satisfaction of knowing that you have done your bit to maintain, preserve and improve your Masonic home

There is no target set, but there is a priority work list.

Based on estimated costs at May 2009 the total required then was between £400,000 & £500,000.00p

Clearly, those costs will have risen since that time so you can appreciate the need for your help.

It couldn’t be easier!
